Like most men, it took me a long time to realise it, and even longer to admit it, but it’s true- you can’t be an expert at everything.

When I worked for others I always wanted to come across as competent in all aspects of the business, no matter what it was.

Budget restraints often meant that if you wanted to do something, you had to do it yourself, but that didn’t make it automatically as good as what a professional would do.

Since starting Eblana I’ve made a virtue of resisting the urge to do stuff I’m not good at – essentially, my work now is now all about telling stories in various different forms.

If it doesn’t fit within that realm, I usually advise my clients to look elsewhere.

Luckily it’s a pretty broad spectrum, and it allows me to use many different media and technologies to do it.

One of the last projects delivered last year was a short film about jazz; one of the first this year is the writing of 100 poems in 100 days to celebrate the spontaneity and creativity of Irish people.

With the opening of a sister company in Ireland, I’m looking forward to telling a lot more stories in the New Year.
